7-Zip
File archiver with high compression

About 7-Zip
7-Zip is the archiver most people end up keeping. It reads and writes 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2, XZ, TAR and WIM, and unpacks another two dozen formats including RAR, ISO, MSI, CAB and DMG. The 7z format with LZMA2 compression routinely produces noticeably smaller archives than plain ZIP, which matters when you are moving multi-gigabyte folders around.
The interface is deliberately plain: a two-pane file manager, a right-click shell menu, and a command-line tool for scripts. AES-256 encryption is built in and can encrypt file names as well as contents. There is no bundled toolbar, no upsell and no account.
Free software under the LGPL, which permits third-party hosting and redistribution.
